Welcome the research program System Innovations and Sustainability Transitions' (SI&ST) official site. This research program consists of members of the School of Innovation Sciences located at the Faculty of Innovation Sciences and Industrial Engineering (IS&IE) of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). SI&ST scholars are fellows at the Eindhoven Centre for Innovation Studies (ECIS).
The group is responsible for both education and research. The group was formed in the year 2000 around a new research program: Transitions toward sustainable development. Analytical research topics are:
- The dynamics of historical sociotechnical transitions. Historical cases are studied to develop analytical models about transition dynamics. An important analytical framework the Multi-Level Perspective (MLP) on transitions.
- The emergence of radical innovations and renewable technologies. These are studied as innovation journeys and niche development trajectories.
- Possibilities for future transitions to sustainability. To this end, we combine the MLP with studies of emerging renewable technologies.
- Governance, modulation and policy. Analytical insights about dynamics of change are used to develop policy implications. We study policy analytically, but also develop prescriptive tools, e.g. Strategic Niche Management (SNM) and Constructive Technology Assessment (CTA). Also fundamental issues are addressed, such as relationships between (lessons from) history and policy.
